College Students Make Money Writing But You Can Do Better

College Students Make Money Writing: Yes, you can make money and I being one who needs money decided to look into this. My first realization was – Yes, you can make money writing for others. It is a big business and people need and want to hire good writers. Most professionals call it freelance work, it’s a career many are making a living with.

You Can Make Money Writing

According to this report,  nearly 40 percent of freelancers are writers and editors. If becoming a freelance writer is your thing, I would suggest you look into this simple – become a freelance writer guide.
Below I list a few places you can start to investigate to see if it is something you want to do. Personally I titled this post “College Students Make Money Writing But You Can Do Better” is because you can. The majority of freelance work targets two types of people, in general. They target college students due to their lack of money. College students need money and they have the free time and the pulse of all things happening. The other group is targeted due to their need of money – that is to say, to make extra money.

Make Money Writing is Easy

People are making money doing freelance work. Websites like Fiverr offer even the average person the opportunity to make money doing freelance work. Even has an article titled: 6 Secrets To Making A Full Time Living On Fiverr  – so again I say “you can make money writing”.

But You Can Do Better

If you want to make money writing articles for other people, I want you to consider there may be something better for you. There is something that can make you more money, open a possible career and best of all a passive income that is no more difficult than writing an article for someone else.

The companies I list below pays people well for articles they write. If you have the skills needed. If you have talent, the gift of gab, charisma and more importantly the patience. You can make money writing articles for others and freelance work will help you make the extra cash you need. In fact you may even be able to do very well for yourself. But – there is always a but. But you can do better.

These companies pay you to write

These companies pay you and they sometimes pay very well for the articles that freelance writers produce.

Wow Women on Writing: $50-100
Wow Women on Writing  does one thing really well: They look after female writers, encourage them and genuinely seek to offer opportunities to budding freelancers.

Strong Whispers: $50 – $150
Strong Whispers  offers readers a range of articles about lifestyle, environment and other social issues. The range is wide. Your contribution is not limited.

College Humour: $25 – $150
College Humor Media, is an online entertainment company targeting a core audience of people ages 18-49.

These companies like many others pay very well. But there are a few things I want you to consider. Such as the possibility that you are thinking short term when you may have the potential for so much more.

College Students Make Money Writing

If you are a college student who is considering freelance work such as making money for writing articles. I want you to know that you can be doing more. If you have the talent, the grammatical skills and the talent to write articles that will be accepted by these companies. Consider this:

1. Short term goal – long term loss: Each article you write if accepted is good and therefor you are paid well for your work. The problem is that it is a onetime payment. While you may be in need of cash now, you are losing out on possible passive income. These articles that you write are accepted and then placed on a website. A website that makes its owner or owners passive income. Your article, your thoughts, your research, and your words are making someone else hundreds and possible thousands. While you only received fifty to one hundred dollars.

2. Easy is fine but more is better: You may think that writing a 1,000 word article is easy and many of these companies sure make sound that way. But the truth is, if it was easy everyone would be doing it. Your article is accepted only if they are good, and some of the requirements are hard to achieve. So writing may seem easy to someone who is good but don’t you want more?

You Can Do Better

If you have the skills to right and you find that your articles are being accepted, that you can make it as a freelance writer. I would suggest you consider writing for your own blog.

Your first reaction probably is: No way. Writing a blog, coming up with the ideas, writing on a schedule and what about all that SEO. That’s just way too much work and I need cash now.

I have a few suggestions.
a. If you can write for others, you can write for yourself. It doesn’t take that much work, if you can write you can write.

b. The tech side of writing a blog – is just like everything else. You learn, you practice and you perfect your craft. If worst comes to worst just keep it simple, no one is asking you to remake the wheel.

c. SEO worries – don’t worry, just start. Your writing skills is what will help you go where you need to go. Think of it as Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr. People spend countless hours micro-blogging and they don’t even realize it. If you have skills, you can use social media to promote yourself and worry about SEO later. I myself have a WordPress website and much of my basic SEO is done with the help of a simple plugin.

d. What do I write about? This is actually easier than you think. There are two ways to go about this: 1. Write what you are passionate about and more importantly, what you are knowledgeable about. 2. Use the writing freelance website as a tool. By this I mean, what are people asking you to write about. If you are writing these articles for them, why not write the same for your blog.

e. Don’t quit your day job. If you have a job don’t quit to start a freelance writer career. The same goes for if you are already writing for a freelance website or company. Turn you Blog or Website into a side job. Grow it organically, don’t try to build it overnight. The best way to start is to start slowly. I would suggest writing three or four awesome articles and share them with friends and family. Do the whole social media thing and promote the blog gradually – don’t spam. While you share your blog with others, I want you to write another awesome article.

f. How often to write? This all depends on your writing skills. You may be the perfectionist who needs a lot of time. You may be the type to do a lot of research, filling your article with a lot of data. The important thing to know is that you have to determine what is right for you. Some people believe that you need to write every day or every week. But it all depends, I read of a successful blog that writes two blog post a month but they make sure that it is the best informative article around.

g. Learn as you go. The rest comes as you go. The important thing is that you learn, taking small steps as you go. One of the most important things to learn is how to best promote your articles. Learning how to promote, and everything that entails is essential to the success of your blog.

h. How do I get paid? I know that becoming a freelance writer was all about making easy fast money. First I want to remind you that making money as a freelance writer is not a guaranteed pay check. But more importantly the goal is to create a passive income for yourself doing what you would be doing for someone else. If you truly can write incredibly well and you can promote your blog just as well – all you need to do is monetize your blog. That is just the beginning of course. There are several other ways to make money from your blog and your writing skills.

In the end, my suggestion to any “college students make money writing” – you can do better. You can do so much more than just write for someone else. Think long term. What’s the worst that can happen? Your blog makes you a few dollars a month while you sleep and as you seek your college degree. Or your blog makes you more money than you thought and like some others, you make it your life.
